My First Work Day at Home

Today is my first official work day as a fully self-employed blogger and I am loving it!  I’ve only been up for 2 hours and I feel like I’ve accomplished a bunch!  If I can complete all of my actual work during the day, I can do the things I enjoy in the evening – like go play bingo, reading, poker night, bowling, and catching up on our favorite tv shows.

Here is what I’ve done so far:

  • Cooked pancakes for breakfast and actually ate with my husband!  Woot!
  • Submitted a staff writing post.
  • Commented on 5 blogs.
  • Started a load of laundry.
  • Emptied the dishwasher.
  • Submitted what I am in charge of for the Totally Money Blog Carnival and sent the next host an email.
  • Read all emails and replied as needed.
  • Answered all advertiser inquiries for my sites and the more than 20 others that I run the advertising for now.
  • Published my weight loss update post at Crystal Clear Thoughts.
  • Am updating this site which I am aiming to do a minimum of 3 times a week.

Here is what on my to-do list before lunch:

  • Catch up in the Yakezie forums.
  • Continue answering emails and advertising inquiries as they pop up.
  • Write some posts for Budgeting in the Fun Stuff.
  • Write 2 more guest posts that I have promised to a couple of bloggers.
  • Move the laundry from the washer to the dryer.
  • Start a load with the dogs’ pillows since they look disgusting right now.
  • Organize my new office desk (I already let it get bad…)
  • Update my Crystal-For-Hire tabs here and at BFS since I have added more clients.
  • Grab my blog checklists and see what’s left.

How is your day going so far?

  • You’re really efficient, Crystal! It’s amazing how much we can get done when we actually have time to do so, unencumbered by other activities.

  • Sounds like you’re off to a great start! I hope working on your business full time allows you to increase revenue and reach your goals even faster!

  • Great day indeed! I’m glad you’re having a great first day.

  • You’ve gotten quite a bit done, that’s for sure. Good luck moving forward in the weeks to come. Be careful that you don’t get burned out. I know I could get that way.

  • @Squirrelers, right after I posted this,I got a call from Meals on Wheels and didn’t get back to blogging until 2pm, lol.

@Mike, yes, and even if it doesn’t, I’m happy. :-)

    @20 and Engaged, thanks!

@kidgas, I will try to avoid burnout. But so far, I am doing things I would have done around my real job anyway…

  • Crystal, good job of staying on task. My day looks a bit like this…

-Son #1 climbs into my bed. I explain that that sun is not up and neither is Mommy.
-45 minutes later stumble downstairs…make coffee and lunch for Mr. SF
    -Computer is turned on…
-Chase son #3 around house stating that breakfast will not be served until a diaper is changed (time lost 4-5 minutes on account of the chasing…)
    -Serve breakfast to two kids
-Clean up hands on son #3. Inspect clothing for remnants of breakfast.
-Start cleaning up kitchen…locate missing breakfast food under the table.
    -Check blog stuff…

I wish I could do your morning. I think I would get more blogging done ;)

  • @Super Frugalette, even on my busiest days, I send my sympathies your way. Patience is a virtue that I do not have…

  • You sound incredibly efficient! Are you a really fast worker? Or maybe don’t sleep much? Count me impressed.
